Software Engineering Manager, Google Home and Nest

Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.

8 years of relevant work experience, including experience in technical leadership and people management, or 5 years of relevant work experience in addition to a PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.

Experience in software development using one or more general purpose programming languages, including but not limited to C/C++, Java, Python, JavaScript, C#, Go, Objective-C, and/or Swift.

Experience working with two or more from the following: web or mobile application development, Unix/Linux environments, distributed and parallel systems, machine learning, embedded systems, information retrieval, natural language processing, networking, developing large software systems, and/or security software development.

Preferred qualifications:
Master’s degree or PhD degree in Engineering, Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Experience with Wifi, embedded systems, IOT, cloud infrastructure, device and network management, and large scale system design.

Experience recruiting, building, and managing large software engineering teams in offshore locations.

Ability to share knowledge via formal mentoring, reviewing code, reviewing design documents, giving technical talks, teaching classes, or as a consultant on projects.

The Google Home and Nest Software Engineering team is responsible for building and launching Google Home and Nest devices such as the Nest Thermostat, Nest Camera, Google Home, Chromecast, Google Wifi, and Google Home Hub Display products. We work on all the Embedded Software, Backend Cloud Services, Frontend Cloud Services, Applications, and Support Tools that enable these devices to provide delightful user experiences in line with our mission of building a thoughtful home.

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will focus on IOT, device management services, identity and household authentication models, family friendly Wifi, home automation, contextual intelligence, voice casting, voice assistant services, machine learning, and more.

Build a team and cultivate a culture of innovation.

Manage a team of software engineers and technical leads, including task planning, code reviews, and software launch and release processes.

Drive technical projects and provide leadership in an innovative and fast-paced environment.

Be responsible for the overall planning, execution, and success of complex technical projects.

Contribute technically to projects. Work closely with product management team to ensure we're building the best products.
